Choose playback settings and engines

More settings do not automatically mean better playback. Keep a stable default setup until you encounter a specific device, network, or format issue that needs a targeted change.

1.Start with the default engine

Play one ordinary video before changing settings. Note the selected engine, source, and file so you can compare the same scene later.

2.Find the playback settings

Open the player settings in Settings, or use a playback-time engine menu if your client offers one. Keep video-engine, audio-track, and subtitle settings separate.

3.Change one option and replay

Choose another engine available on this device, or change a single relevant option. Replay the same scene and compare picture, sound, subtitles, and seeking. Restore the original choice if the change does not help.

4.Check device and format limits

An engine decoding a file does not prove HDR display output or audio passthrough. These also depend on hardware, the system, the display chain, and the file. Include those details when reporting a problem.

Before you finish

  • Default settings were tested first
  • The issue is reproducible with a known file and source
  • Only one setting changes in each test
